BIBLE

A worldview is how we explain and interpret the world as well as how we live in accordance with this view of life.  Veritas is founded upon the following biblical worldview:  God is.  He is our creator and sustainer, and the one to whom we are ultimately responsible.  As stated in the Veritas Christian Community School Board Policy Manual, the end goal of all policies is well summarized in the following statement by Francis Schaeffer in the essay, “Back to Freedom and Dignity.”

Christians should prepare to take the lead in giving direction to cultural change.  And if it goes poorly, as well it might in this post-Christian world, then we should be consciously preparing the next generation for the new battles it will face.

This is the ultimate goal of Bible instruction at Veritas.  This instruction has as its foundation the school’s Statement of Faith:

  1. We believe the Bible to be the only inerrant, authoritative Word of God.
  2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  He is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent.
  3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  4. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful men, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary.
  5. We believe that salvation is by grace through faith alone, and that faith without works is dead.
  6. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life.
  7. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved to the resurrection of life and they that are lost to the resurrection of damnation.
  8. We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus, and that this unity forms the Christian community for whom our school is designed.

Program Description

Although each grade receives specific instruction in Bible, it is our resolve to teach every other subject from a Christian worldview.  Therefore the Bible Curriculum Guide is seen as the starting point and not in any way inclusive of all learning that goes on toward the development of the paideia of God.

As students progress from the grammar grades to the dialectic and rhetoric grades, the goal of Bible instruction becomes the realization of the logical outcome of God’s sovereign plan of redemption, reconciling sinful man to his holy Creator.  Rhetoric and apologetics are integrated with Bible instruction at the rhetoric level, so that students will be well equipped to face the world’s opposition.  Our burning desire is that each and every Veritas student be found among the redeemed, undergoing the process of sanctification; however we realize that this is the work of the Holy Spirit.  As the Holy Spirit works in them we desire that they learn to evaluate their own hearts and respond accordingly.  It is our conviction to train our students so that they are able to discern truth from error, allowing them to recognize and battle the world’s influence upon them so that the truth of the Gospel might find fertile soil within them.  Instruction in worldviews, biblical and non-biblical, is a vital part of the integration of Biblical truths within other subjects and the training necessary to be in the world but not of it..
